Project: David Byrne Bike Racks
Our Role: Design & Fabrication
Description: In 2008, polymath David Byrne conceived of a series of bike racks as a public art project after he was inspired in his role as a judge for the New York City Department of Transportation CityRacks Design Competition. New Project collaborated with the former Talking Heads member to execute 9 different bike racks which were installed throughout the city, with each work taking a form related to its setting: a woman’s shoe in front of Bergdorf Goodman, a dollar sign on Wall Street. In 2016, New Project again teamed up with David to create a new set of Silicon Valley-themed bike racks in conjunction with the artist’s exhibition in Menlo Park, CA.
