Creating opportunities to build community through his site-specific works is inherent in the work of artist and designer Olalekan Jeyifous. “Regeneration” exemplifies this approach - both a public art installation and a gathering place, the sculptural work brings together art, community and the built environment.
New Project supported the artist from concept through installation and provided design development and engineering, fabrication, and installation management for “Regeneration” which is situated at the gateway to Spartanburg, SC’s Northside neighborhood.
Drawing upon the history of the site and the vision for the neighborhood’s future, the 9-foot-tall light posts are topped with unique icons. Metal and ipe benches and ottomans encircle each post, anchored by the central pillar with an emergent butterfly measuring 6.5 feet tall with a 6-foot wing span.
